International Applicants
Although we encourage international applicants, it is important to note that we do not have on or off site sleeping quarters to house international staff. Many times, applicants will have prior living arrangements set up or acquaintances which they can live with during their time at camp.

Lifeguards Birch State Park
Must hold a Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization. Must be at least 18 years old. This is a part time, seasonal position for the Spring camp session (March 25- 29, April 1-5) or Summer camp (June 10 – August 16) Possibility for additional hours may be available.
Head Lifeguard will be in charge of setting up the waterfront areas (Beach at Fort Lauderdale) and maintaining order throughout camp swim times. They will need to assess the swimming abilities of all campers ages 5 – 16 and be responsible for the equipment used during this time, such as surfboards, paddle boards, and more. All applicants are required to demonstrate lifesaving skills before employment and References are required.
The expected schedule is 8:30 – 4:00 pm. Lifeguards will also be asked to assist Canoe, Archery, and Fishing instructor in the daily setup of the camp.
Location:
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, Fort Lauderdale.
Rate: $12 – $14.00 depending on experience.

Head Counselor for Ft. Lauderdale
We are looking for Certified Teachers, Substitutes, Outdoor Educators, or former Camp people with the energy and excitement to participate and guide children through canoeing, fishing, archery, science, and arts and crafts activities at the beautiful Birch State Park in Ft. Lauderdale. Applicants will be working outside, rain or shine, so a positive attitude and a love of the outdoors is a MUST.
We are looking for nature enthusiasts, hard-working, team players that love teaching children about the world around them. Applicants MUST be flexible and willing to help in a variety of areas and a willingness to learn! Self-motivated individuals with excellent communication skills is a MUST! The counselor position is full time, seasonal; and a full spring or summer season contract is preferred.
Additional Head Counselor Requirements
• Enthusiastic about the outdoors and promoting respect of the environment
• Minimum age of 21, Certified Teacher, or have extensive experience working with
children ages 5-13!
• Must be able to work full camp days (8:30 am — 4:00 pm)
• Camp experience is a plus!
Must have reliable transportation. Applicant will be fingerprinted and background checked.

Rate: $13.00 – $15.00 depending on experience.

Canoe/Archery/Fishing Instructor
We are looking for experienced and energetic individuals in the area of canoeing, kayaking, archery, and fishing to work with children ages 5 to 13 years old. The C/A/F specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising these activities while encouraging participation, team building, and leadership. He/she will also implement safety procedures in all activity areas and ensure that all campers are informed as to how to participate in each activity. The C/A/F specialist will have a budget to acquire equipment. Additional job duties include but are not limited to the following: inventory and maintenance of all equipment and ensuring its proper use and storage. He/she will also assist the on-site Director with special camp activities and plan meaningful activities for rainy days. Lifeguard certification a PLUS!
This is a physical job and the applicant MUST be able to lift/carry at least 50 lbs. Applicant must also be comfortable working outdoors for an extended amount of time, rain or shine! Since Camp Live Oak is an environmental day camp that promotes respect for the environment and all that live in it, the C/A/F specialist will also be responsible for promoting the Leave No Trace principles in these activities.
Requirements:
- Must be able to work entire spring (March 25 -29, April 1-5 ) or summer camp season: June 10th- Aug 16th
- Must attend all Staff Training (multiple dates in May)
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have canoeing, archery, and fishing experience as well as know how to implement such programs.
- Previous childcare experience or teaching experience is recommended.
- Additional outdoor camping experience a plus++
- Must be a self-starter and team player!
